How to play Word Search

Start Word Search by looking at the playing area and its controls. Find every listed word in a 10×10 grid. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Choose a comfortable screen position before beginning. Look at what changes after your first action.

Each board contains eight target words from the included English word list.

Build familiarity through play

Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules. Refer to the controls when needed.

Your objective

Find every listed word in a 10×10 grid. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Check the rules when you are unsure.

A walkthrough of the rules

  1. Select the first and last letter of a straight word.
  2. Words can run horizontally, vertically or diagonally, in either direction.
  3. Find all eight targets.
  4. New puzzle shuffles again.

How to use the controls

Tap or click endpoints. Use the control method described here for this activity. Make sure you are interacting with the game rather than the surrounding page.

A closer look at one example

Selecting the endpoints in reverse order also finds the same word. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Verify the rule before continuing.

An important reminder

Words cannot turn corners. Check the rule before repeating the action. Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board.
